Gumption

On of my most favorite movies is "The Holiday".  And there are two lines that totally resonate with me.....both said by Iris (Kate Winslet).

"You're supposed to be the leading lady of your own life, for god's sake!"


"I don't know, but I think what I've got is something slightly resembling....GUMPTION!"

And you know what, even though Iris is a fictional character, she's totally right!  You are supposed to be the leading lady (or man) of your own life.  You aren't supposed to just sit back and let life "happen".  And sometimes, in order to stop doing that, you have to have a little something called gumption.

Gumption: initiative, resourcefulness, courage, spunk, guts, common sense.

There you have it.  My word for 2011.
