Make a list.

I'm feeling a little rebellious.  And not wanting to blog.  Wait, I take that back.  I want to blog, but I don't want to blog.  Get my meaning?

I've been thinking about a monumental birthday that is coming up. And thinking about where I am in life as compared to where I used to think I would be at this point.  And they don't compare at all!  It was more than a little depressing, I have to say.   But, I think I've had a breakthrough – at least in realizing that it's okay to not be living in a house with a white picket fence and 2.5 children.  That doesn't mean that I still don't want to do that at some point, but it's alright that I'm not doing it right this minute.   And if the big G plops that down in front of me right this minute, I would stand up from the computer and walk right through that gate….even without finishing my blog entry.

But still, at 34 days until the big 3-0, there still seems like a lot left on the "before I'm 30" list.   The list has never been written down, but I'm gonna do it right now.  Well, at least over the next few days.  And I'll record them here in my blogary.   And shoot!  I thought I'd come up with a new word for this blog + diary, but Google has proven me wrong.  Someone beat me to the punch.  He-he.

Here is the beginning of my list!

own a home

have a car that is completely paid off (even if it just for a little bit.  I just want to know what it feels like J)

get a tattoo, baby

be published in at least one of three specific magazines

take a "outlander" tour of scotland

visit all of the continents (3 down, 4 to go)

visit the seven wonders of the medieval world (2 down, 5 to go)

live in a foreign country

There's more!  I'll add it soon!

So, here's my challenge to you.  Write your list down.  Make it public.  Post it on your blog.  Send it in a mass email.  Write it on a big poster and hang in your closet.  Dry-erase marker it on your bathroom mirror.  Whatever it takes.  And start marking things off.  Actually do the things on your list.  It doesn't matter how un-obtainable they may seem.  Start the ball rolling.  Get 'em done.  And while you are doing it – enjoy every single moment.

What's on your list?

  1. Ahem, tap, tap, tap. Shouldn't that be Take an "Outlander" tour?

  3. It's funny how we all approach birthdays. You might be amused to read what I posted on my blog last month, as I approached a milestone birthday: http://alphabetsoupstudio.blogspot.com/2008/06/forties-final-hours.html
I love your list of things to do before you're 30. You have already had so many opportunities, what with your travel. Good on you! As for your list, remember that sometimes the best things we get are the ones we must wait for!
As for me, I don't have a list. The one thing life has taught me is that the unexpected things that have happened, the ones that would never have been on any list I would have compiled, are the things I now cherish :-)

  4. Is this supposed to be a 'Before 30' list? If so, whoops, missed it!
