When I grow up I want to own a laundromat.

Only recently have I gotten to experience the joy of the laundromat. I've visited several over the past couple of months and I think I've about decided, I could totally own a laundromat. And keep it clean. And make it comfortable. And make it a fun place.

First of all, there are lots of laundromats in Atlanta. A lot more than I ever expected, actually. However, laundromats that aren't dirty, stinky, or safe for a single girl after the hour of 6pm are a little harder to come by. I've managed to find two. Both require a bit of a drive, but its worth it, since I know I won't have to worry about being uncomfortable.

No matter which one you go to, laundromats seem to be an afterthought. But I've come the realization that they probably shouldn't be. I've never been to an empty laundromat. Granted, I've never had to fight for a washing machine, but there have been times I've had to stake my claim on a dryer.

So, in an ideal laundry mat here's what I'd have:

Paint on the walls
WiFi
An actual person to answer questions, help with a machine or refund your money when a machine doesn't work.
Comfortable chairs
A few tables for homework or laptop use
A television

More than anything…it would be clean. Clean enough that if you drop your unmentionables on the floor by accident….you don't have to put it in the dirty clothes pile. Again.

It couldn't be that hard, right?

If you went to a laundromat, what would you like it to be like?

  1. What a great idea. Seriously! The only other thing I could think of would maybe be a vending machine, or something.
