So, no cards today...

I really wanted to make cards today...and make chocolate chip cookies, and shave my legs. I have gotten a really good glimpse of what life is like with children over the past 5 days. And shaving the legs takes low priority in the grand scheme of things :)

I realized that yesterday and today both, I fed all the girls a meal, but didn't ever feed myself. And I did it for breakfast and lunch today. I'm thinking this is a normal occurence in the life of a mom. You get so busy seeing to the needs of the kids, you allow your needs to take a backseat. And while it's so important to take care of them, it's important to take care of yourself as well. I was irritated, felt disgusting and had the shakes. That combo does not make a happy camper...or happy little campettes. It's been so enlightening!

My friend Misti had the great analogy of the "oxygen masks on the airplane". They always instruct you to place the oxygen mask on yourself before your children. I think that is some seriously sound advice.

So, all you moms out there...put your oxygen masks on. Your children will appreciate it!

By the way - we did make the chocolate chip cookies!

One pair of tights on the stairs, a running faucet and a kazillion toys

That's what I walked past to get to the computer to blog. (I turned the running water off). Another crazy day with the three girls. It's a little past their bedtime, but they were excited to watch Kung Fu Panda, so they all got to stay up.

It's toy pandemonium (pause while I wipe some crusty unknown thing from the computer monitor) and I just realized the television is on...in the living room. I'm in the kitchen and all three girls are in bed. Yikes.

But in the end, regardless of what happened today, I'm amazed at the resilience of these girls. I snapped at each one at some point today, they've all had a meltdown of some sort, Regan scraped her knee, Victoria got frustrated with me while trying to read her book, and Elizabeth has a nasty crusty nose and a possible fever...but they still each told me they loved in their own way before they went to bed.

How is that possible? Me? I'm not a blood relative...and they sorely miss their parents...but they still have this uncanny knack for showing their love. It amazes me.

I've spent the afternoon trying to upload projects to Two Peas. Earlier tonight, the upload function seemed to crash...so hopefully I can finish tonight. My goal is to create some cards tomorrow....we'll see.

Have a great night!

I never thought I would say this...

I never thought I would say this, but I had to wait till the girls went on an afternoon playdate before I typed a blog post.....

Whhuuttt? You didn't know I three dark-headed girls all under the age of 7? Not normally, but for this week I do. While my good friends Michael and Lisa are enjoying themselves in sunny California, I am on mommy duty. And let me just say, being a mommy is hard.

The two oldest girls are play on their own a lot, but then you add a toddler to the mix there just isn't time to do much of anything unless she's napping or sitting in her high chair.

We are having fun. But once again...posts may be short and sweet. Especially since I just heard the youngest stir in her crib. See you later!

Light Dawns...

It's over and light dawns...I'm all moved and about 3/4 settled in thanks to friends (you all know who you are) and family (you, too). Moving day was pretty low stress as far as moving days go. There was laughter and smiles...always a good thing. And a friend who stayed till I kicked her out...she didn't ever complain about having to organize extension cords or figure out what cord went with what electronic device! It's time like these I realize how truly blessed I am to be surrounded by such loving people!

Getting caught up on blog reading...and my brain is starting to feel a little less like mush and more like something that actually works pretty well on a regular basis (no jokes about that statement, okay?).

Alive, well, and prepared for the next phase of life...and wondering what the future holds...

Talk to you soon!

One Little Word

Last year when Ali Edwards started talking about her One Little Word for 2008, I loved the idea, but just couldn't pin down a word. And earlier this week I just dismissed the whole idea because I was feeling overwhelmed with all of the hooplah going on, but I'm just not going to let all of that keep me from choosing a word. So, oddly enough, the word I am choosing for 2009 is "Constancy".

While reading some of the defintions of constancy, there is a tendancy for the definition to lend itself to being a little stale and unchanging. While unchanging is good, stale is not. But if you look a little further, the constancy I am looking for is steadfast, sticking to your ideals, faithfullness, ceaseless. That's what I am looking for.

Here are some defintions.

the quality of being enduring and free from change or variation; "early mariners relied on the constancy of the trade winds"

(psychology) the tendency for perceived objects to give rise to very similar perceptual experiences in spite of wide variations in the conditions of observation

faithfulness and dependability in personal attachments (especially sexual fidelity) wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

The quality of being constant; steadiness or faithfulness in action, affections, purpose, etc; An unchanging quality or characteristic of a ...en.wiktionary.org/wiki/constancy
constant - changeless: unvarying in nature; "maintained a constant temperature"; "principles of unvarying validity"

constant - a quantity that does not vary

constant - steadfast in purpose or devotion or affection; "a man constant in adherence to his ideals"; "a constant lover"; "constant as the northern star"

constant - a number representing a quantity assumed to have a fixed value in a specified mathematical context; "the velocity of light is a constant"

constant - ceaseless: uninterrupted in time and indefinitely long continuing; "the ceaseless thunder of surf"; "the never-ending search for happiness"...wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

So, what's your one little word for 2009?
