Twilight

Well, it's official. I have become a Twilight fan. Misti loaned me a copy of the first book in the series. I started reading it Monday night. And stayed up last night till about 1am to finish it. Yikes. And, I read the preview for the next book New Moon. I am so pumped to read it. I had originally requested that they be transferred to my local library, and got an email from them saying they had the next book ready for me, but they don't. They have the last book in the series waiting. ARGH! I refuse to go out and buying the middle one, but I am desperate! Whatever will I do??

Wedding Day Menu - Vegetable Soup

Do you ever wish your relatives had written down stories about their past to pass on to each generation?  I definiately do, especially when it comes to my parents and grandparents.  Over the past couple of years, I've discovered there are huge portions of my Mom and Dad's life that I know absolutely nothing about.  I came along later in life, after both of my brothers were out of the house, so they had done a lot of living already!

This post comes after a conversation with my Mom on Sunday afternoon about her wedding day.  We were sitting on her porch eating vegetable soup when out of the blue she said "Did you know I had vegetable soup for lunch on my wedding day?".  So, here's my attempt at recounting what she told me in the hope that one day it will make it onto a scrapbooking page or somewhere else for the sake of posterity.

Her mom (Mo) made her wedding dress.  It was white and tea length with lace trim.  My grandmother sewed tiny pearls onto the lace for days.  When I eventually asked what happened to her wedding dress she admitted that she and my Aunt Paula cut it up one year to make what she thinks were Halloween costumes for their kids.  SAY WHAT???!!!!

She got up and went to church then went home and ate vegetable soup and a ham sandwich (Mo had asked her what she wanted for lunch).  Then she took a nap.  (How many brides are that relaxed on their wedding day these days?  They had the reception at her parent's house with cake and punch.

When I asked her about it all being so relaxed and easy she said that shortly before her wedding day, Daddy Frank (her father) put his foot through the ceiling of the living room where the reception was to be held.  So apparently there was a bit of tizzy to get it fixed in time.  And apparently his foot went through right in front of the fireplace where a painting hung that they had checked out from the library.

Yes, that's right.  They checked a painting out from the library.  Who knew you could do such a thing?  Apparently she wanted her favorite of the ones they had checked out in the past for the reception, but when her Mom went to the library to get it another family already had it.   The library called and explained the situation and the family brought it back so Mom could have it at her reception.  She told me the title of the painting….but the name is escaping me now.  Seems like it was "Literature and Music".   Now I am curious.  I want to find a picture of it!

So, there's the story of the day.  I'm glad to be able to write it down.

No scrapbooking = no fun!

So, it's been almost two weeks since my last post.  And I hate it.  I think about my blog every day.  I whine in my head about not being able to write.  Then I sit down to write, and discover, I don't really know how to write about what has been going on in the past little bit. Now – don't get worried.  Nothing life threatening, no emergency.  Just lots of life.

Things at work are a little odd and a lot challenging right now.  I won't go into details, but I will say I am very happy to have a job, even if it means going back to answering the phones and doing things I stopped doing several years ago.  I do miss my old desk.  And the freedom to go to the bathroom whenever I want to.  But, hopefully, in the end, the sacrifices will all be worth it.  The state of the economy has hit us pretty hard…and these are the sacrifices we are all making to keep the company profitable and afloat until things start to improve.

That being said, I've been extremely busy at work.  And by the time I get home, I'm pretty much ready to go to sleep.  Stupid tired.  That pretty much means I'm only good for sitting on the sofa with a glazed look in my eyes for about 30 minutes, then going to bed.

This week has been better, and I think by next week I'll have the hang of it.  And hopefully by next week my creative juices will be flowing again.  No scrapbooking = no fun J  My google reader has hit 400 posts just sitting there waiting for me to read….I'm excited to get caught up on everyone's posts!

More later!

Oh, by the way, does anyone out there watch Bones?  I need a Bones buddy.  I about had a heart attack Tuesday night and had no one to call and talk about it with!!!  Let me know if you are a fan.

Happy Weekend!

Busily preparing for a retreat with my small group.  We are driving up to a lake house on Lake Hartwell for the weekend.  And our major activity is for us each to share our life story.  It sounds kinda hokey…but we've been reading a book called Captivating by John and Stasi Eldrige that truly has been life changing for all of us.  And now it's time to talk about the events that have shaped our lives.  At first I didn't really think that it would be to difficult to write everything out…until I started actually writing the dang thing and now it's getting on to 5 pages and I'm just really up events that occurred when I was 20 or so.  Yikes.  It's also been far more emotional to write everything out than I thought.  And there have moments when I've been tempted to not write the painful things.  So, I've had to force myself to do it!  It should be a life changing weekend!

I've had a week of scrappy goodness, I can't wait to share it with you, but I won't be able to until August!  Keep your fingers crossed!

And here's a shout out to our good friend Vicky!  Happy Graduation!!!!

Weekend Update

I'm in the throes of finishing up entries for the Memory Makers contest.  There, I said it.  I guess now I officially have to actually submit my entry and do all of the follow thru.  You all are my accountability on this one.  I had originally thought that the due date was in May, but it's not until July.  But I'm not stopping.  Momentum is good.  Remind me that I have to keep doing this, okay?  Unfortunately, I won't be able to actually post the layouts I'm working on for this – at least not until after they announce the winners.

This past weekend was busy, but a blast.  Visiting with Mom (fresh from Panama), Terri, Jan and Lana Friday afternoon, scrappin' with Laurel and Sandy (with a drive-by by Stephanie), shopping at Hobby Lobby, church on Sunday, a good movie  (The Kite Runner) on Sunday afternoon and a little sofa time.

I do have to admit that I have become more than a little addicted to the television series Farscape.  When I visited Allen in Australia, we watched the entire first season and a few episodes of the 2nd season.  I'm methodically making my way through the rest of it.  It's crazy sci-fi, but oh so good.  I'm starting to mourn the end of the series already.  Whatever will I watch when this is finished???  Any suggestions?

On the television front, Big Brother is finished, and the Survivor finale is Sunday.  Boo-hoo.   I'm already counting the days to the beginning of the next season of Big Brother on July 13th.

Talk to you soon!

The last of the layouts - for now...

Now - some of ya'll made fun of my sand and pebble pictures the last time we go together to scrap. Shame on you! I love them - tire tracks and all! I used acrylic stamps to fill in the journaling.

Basic Grey - Boxer

I love this paper by Basic Grey! My favorite picture - the one of Victoria holding her hands behind her back. She seems so brave but full of trepidation as well.

New Layouts!

Another new layout of Victoria. She is turning into such a young lady. It's amazing to compare these photos to those of her t-ball pictures. She seems so grown up in this layout!
So, I completely branched out on this one. I drew the "Bloom" at the top. I was practically sweating before I finished, since the rest of the layout was already glued down. Luckily, I managed to not screw it up! There are lots fo sparkly's on this page, but they don't show up in the photo.
The quote at the bottom is by Dale Carnegie - "One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden of the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today"
